For You

The view from Pastor Smith's office
There are times when we need personal, pastoral care. Other times we are looking at a life passages and want the church to be part of that. Either way, Good Shepherd has a number of ministries for you.
Baptism
We practice infant baptism, as we believe that God’s promises are available to all, and that God welcomes these children into the body of Christ. We also baptize adults who would like to join Good Shepherd. We believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. If you have been baptized in another denomination, and would like to join Good Shepherd, you will simply affirm the promises made at your baptism. Pastor Smith requires parents of children to join her in several conversations about baptism, and what it means for their family and for the church. Read more about what Lutherans believe…
First Communion
Typically, this happens in 5th grade. Youth and their parents are invited to participate in a few conversations over a month or two, preparing both youth and parents for the sacrament of Holy Communion and discovering more about the gift of grace God offers for us. Read more about Holy Communion…
Confirmation
This is a two year process for youth in 7th and 8th grade. Students will have conversations with each other and with Pastor Smith about the bible and the church. Confirmation in the Lutheran Church happens during a worship service where the students affirm their baptism and the promises that were made on their behalf. At this time they also become voting members of the congregation.
Marriage
If you would like to have Pastor Smith marry you and your significant other at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, she’d love to talk to you! Pastor Smith requires pre-marital counseling for at least six months prior to the wedding date, but the form and structure of those conversations are flexible! Contact Pastor Smith to get a copy of our wedding policies.
Funerals
We believe in the promise of the resurrection, but we also care for one another in our times of grief and loss. Pastor Smith is available to discuss pre-arrangements or to help you plan a funeral service for a loved one.

Home Visits
We have many members who are homebound, and unable to join us at the church on a regular basis. Pastor Smith visits these members on average of once a month, and often brings Communion with her. If you know someone who would benefit from a visit from the pastor, let her know! If you are interested in helping Pastor Smith to form a team of lay leaders to take turns visiting members, let her know!
